About arena About arena
The idea of building a multipurpose arena was first floated by the city council as early as the beginning of the new millennium, in connection with the renovation and extension of the city stadium. The city stadium’s condition at that time (the complex comprising a playing field, a track and field stadium, tennis courts, a bowling alley, and a somewhat obsolete hockey-only arena) was such that a thorough renovation was required to answer the needs of Liberec residents and visitors alike.
The city stadium site was thus logically the focus of the search for a suitable location for the new arena, owing to its existing facilities (albeit incomplete) and the availability of sufficient land.
In September 2003, the municipal council concluded that the project was feasible and would benefit the city’s strategic development and contribute to tourism in the area. With the final approval for the arena obtained, building work was soon underway, and the state-of-the-art multipurpose venue officially opened its doors on 8 September 2005. The modern arena, which can house up to 9000 spectators, serves primarily as a sporting venue, but can also double as a place to host major cultural and social events.
In terms of both technology and facilities, the arena is a state-of-the-art venue that is on a par with similar arenas in Europe and worldwide.
